Spirulina For Dogs
Spirulina is a type of blue-green micro algae with a wide range of amazing health benefits for dogs.
Packed with chlorophyll, beta carotene, and essential fatty acid GLA, spirulina is a nutritional powerhouse. It’s also a great source of protein - per gram it has more protein than meat!
Spirulina contains unique phytonutrients which gives a boost the immune system. It also naturally stimulates “good” gut bacteria while reducing the “bad” ones. That means it improves digestion, so you dog can better absorb the nutrition contained in their food.
The biggest reason we love spirulina though is it's powerful anti-inflammatory abiities. This makes it a great dietary addition for dogs suffering from itchy skin, hot spots or sore paws.
Here's how spirulina can help your dog:
- reduce allergies
- boost immune system
- improve the gut
- help detox the body
HOW TO FEED
Spirulina is such a potent food that only a tiny amount is needed to get the amazing health benefits. A little goes a long way! Try a daily dosage of 1/8 teaspoon per 10kg of bodyweight.
To feed, mix the spirulina into your dog’s food as by itself it’s not very tasty. Our new Green Goat recipe contains spirulina, which we use to help reduce allergies and boost immune function.
WHAT TO BUY
Spirulina is grown outside in fresh water, then collected and dried into the powder you buy. There is a massive difference in high and low quality spirulina. It’s really important to get spiluna that has been produced in strictly controlled conditions, without pollution or chemicals.
Avoid cheap spirulina at all costs! It’s one of those ingredients that has to be top quality, or it’s just not worth feeding. And remember, spirulina is great for dogs and humans alike.
